Peringa United Junior Football Information
Peringa United AFC has junior teams from 4th - 13th grade and are always looking for new players!
Peringa United AFC are affiliated to Central Football Federation who are the regional administrator for New Zealand Football.
Hub Football / Mini Football
New Zealand football have an initiative named “The Whole of Football Plan”.
This involves the use of Football ‘hubs’ for 4-8 year olds which aim to incorporate skill acquisition and small sided games in a holistic approach to getting youngsters to fall in love with football.
Practically speaking, a hub is based at Peringa park on a Saturday morning during the winter season. All Peringa teams from 4th-8th grade play at this hub every Saturday, which generally lasts 1 hour (9am start usually). Teams begin with 2-3 skill drills, followed by 2-3 small sided games.
Hub exchanges are attempted 2x a year, where teams will possibly play at different venues.
9th-13th grades play Mini Football which incorporates more traditional games. They play 7, 9 or 11- aside games on a home and away basis. Scores are not recorded until 12th grade.
Through the year there are two tournaments held by central football. These are generally Queens Birthday weekend and at the end of the season. Scores are kept during these tournaments and winners get ribbons.
The season usually starts the first weekend of term 2 and ends mid-late August. There are no games on the middle and final weekends of the School holidays.
Cancellations
Cancellations are posted on the Central Football website: www.centralfootball.co.nz/cancellation/ Check the Peringa website www.peringaafc.co.nz as well as on the Peringa United AFC facebook page (“like” the page if you haven’t already!)
Age groups/dispensations
Players are grouped by year of birth. This means that often players are not in teams with classmates due to the variations in birth year in a school classroom.
Dispensations are strictly assessed, and are only usually approved in order to assist in making viable teams if a club is struggling with numbers in a certain grade.
Gear
Players are required to supply their own football boots, shinpads, black socks and black shorts. The club provides a playing shirt for the season as well as bibs/balls/cones etc.
Coaches/trainings
We are always looking for willing coaches!! This is a fantastic and rewarding experience. Central Football offer free introduction to coaching courses which are worth completing. Peringa endeavour each season to run coaching clinics for the coaches to help give some ideas around trainings etc.
Training nights/times are at the discretion of those wonderful parents who agree to step forward and coach a team.
